Spring! Gotta love the sunshine – and how it reveals every single window screaming for a good scrub. Luckily, up here in Oulu it’s still cold enough to justify waiting a little longer.

March is just about done, and wow – it’s been a busy one. I had the chance to talk to a big crowd about what 2025 has in store for data protection. Trying to squeeze an hour’s worth of insights into 15 minutes? A fun little challenge. 😄

April’s looking lively too. The annual, and absolutely delightful, TuottavuusWappu event is happening on April 29th – a full day of hands-on productivity insights for everyone. I’ll be there talking about how privacy and productivity go hand-in-hand. And who knows – maybe a few NIS2 thoughts will sneak in as well. Everyone’s welcome – the ticket price is super friendly, and the whole organization can join in for the price of one. More info here: Tuottavuuswappu 29.4.2025 – The best training day of the spring

Meanwhile, the Finnish bill implementing the NIS2 directive is still waiting for the president’s signature – but it’s set to come into force on April 8th (Government submits a bill for cybersecurity act for approval – Finnish Government). After that, no more waiting. If your organization falls under NIS2, it’s time to roll up those sleeves and get things sorted.

The bill isn’t asking for the moon. Sure, it might seem like a lot if you’ve never dabbled in cybersecurity before – but think of it like learning a new language. At first, you’re completely lost. But slowly the words and concepts start to stick, and hey – suddenly you’re speaking Cyber. Maybe not fluently, but enough to get by. And that’s already a solid start.

Plus, Finland is full of great consultants who can help. So no need to slog through the cyber swamp alone.

In the end, what NIS2 asks for is pretty straightforward: get your documentation and processes in order, know your risks, and make sure leadership understands their responsibilities. Add in a few tech-related features – and chances are, you might already have the tools in place. You just haven’t used them to their full potential yet.

So yes – spring is here, the cyber sun is shining, and even though the world can be a bit grim at times, let’s stick to the bright side. A place where people are treated kindly, responsibility is owned, and we’ve got each other’s backs.

Wishing you sunny days ahead,
Marita
