Tuomas Rautava joined Netox at the beginning of 2025 in search of the next step in his career. In less than a year, his role grew from Production Manager to 24/7 Operations Manager – opening up the opportunity to use his full potential in a completely new way.

When Tuomas Rautava started at Netox in early 2025, he already had a diverse background in IT services. At the same time, he felt that the next step in his career was still waiting to be taken.

– Before joining Netox, I had worked both in industrial IT and as a Service Delivery Manager on the network side. Still, I felt that in those environments I wasn’t quite able to use my full potential, Tuomas says.

Tuomas had already come across Netox on LinkedIn and found it to be an interesting workplace in many ways.

– When I applied, one thing I thought about quite a lot was that, as someone born and raised in Oulu, it would be pretty cool to work for an Oulu-based company like this.

Tuomas started at Netox as a Production Manager and progressed in less than a year to a new role as 24/7 Operations Manager.

– You could notice the difference compared to my previous jobs quite quickly. Here I was able to start using my potential right away and take on responsibility in a completely different way.

A workday filled with variety

As 24/7 Operations Manager, Tuomas is responsible for Netox’s SOC services and round-the-clock IT services, and he also acts as the owner of the ServiceNow platform.

– The most important thing is making sure the 24/7 operation runs smoothly and that customers are served according to our agreements. There are many teams and people involved, so the days fill up quickly with meetings, roadmap planning and collaboration with different stakeholders.

Leadership responsibilities are also an important part of Tuomas’s daily work.

– I lead quite a large team, so there are plenty of HR-related tasks as well as matters related to team and individual development. It’s important to listen to team members and help them grow, while also keeping a good team spirit and sense of humor.

And that’s not all. As the owner of the ServiceNow platform, developing it also takes its share of time.

– A typical week includes a lot of ServiceNow-related project meetings, technology roadmap planning and collaboration with partners.

With so many responsibilities, Tuomas sometimes feels like he’s playing a real game of Tetris with his calendar. Still, maintaining a healthy work-life balance is actively supported.

– We have weekly one-to-one discussions, and my manager makes sure that the workload stays reasonable. After the workday I often head out to the cross-country ski tracks, which is a great way to balance out a busy workday.

Your work has an impact on the whole company

For Tuomas, one of the most rewarding aspects of the job is seeing the impact of his work quickly.

– Through my own work I can significantly influence how the whole company moves forward. I can see and feel that the company is constantly growing and developing, and that the services we provide to customers keep improving.

Leadership responsibilities have also become an important part of everyday work, and their impact is often the most visible.

– It’s amazing to see how team members keep developing in their roles.

There is one thing about his job that still makes Tuomas laugh from time to time.

– My job title is quite a mouthful.

A workplace at the forefront of IT

After more than a year at Netox, Tuomas feels he made the right decision.

– My expectations were high, but Netox still managed to exceed them. It has been amazing to see how much responsibility, trust and support you can get here if you’re willing to take initiative. I didn’t realize how much I could achieve in my career.

The company culture has also made a strong impression.

– What unites us netoxians is the courage and ambition to develop together and move the company forward. The hierarchy is low and people are genuinely helpful.

According to Tuomas, Netox also offers the chance to work on things that move the entire industry forward.

– If you look at the IT scene as a whole, it’s pretty exciting to be at the forefront trying out new things and developing the industry. No matter what role you come here for – if you have the motivation, you can go quite far.

Many people in the industry have noticed the same thing.

– I talked about this with quite a few people at the Disobey hacker conference. Most of them said they were a bit jealous. And I can’t really blame them, because this really is a damn good place to work, Tuomas laughs.
