Miranda Helleharju, who has been Finance Controller at Netox for two years, is one of the company’s two finance professionals. What she enjoys most about her job, she says, is the opportunity to do things her own way. This is the freedom that a small but effective team offers.

With over ten years of experience in the industry, Miranda started her career as an accountant. The road then led to a job in financial management in a consultancy firm, where she stayed until a former colleague asked if Miranda would be interested in a change of job.

“I didn’t actually apply for a job at Netox – they called me and asked if I was interested. At first I was a bit puzzled, as I didn’t know anything about the company – even the name was new to me. However, I already knew my current supervisor, Marjukka, and pretty soon I decided to take up the chance. The job sounded like exactly what I wanted to do.”

For a KLT-certified accountant – that is, one certified by the Tili-instituuttisäätiö foundation – who has worked in accounting firms in the past, one difference is very clear.

“In the accountancy world I might have dozens of clients at best, but now I have only one.” This means much less stress at work.

“Every working day differs: there’s a lot of ad hoc stuff and a nice amount of variety. On the other hand, because I also do our accounting, there’s a lot of work that’s repeated from month to month and day to day.

Every day here is different

A relaxed and friendly atmosphere

As some Netox employees work remotely and the company has offices in several cities, interactions are different from working in a company with only one office. However, Miranda says that the relaxed company culture and everyone’s approachable mindset makes Netox a great place to be.

“It’s a nice place to come to work in: there’s always someone to have lunch with, laughs, after-work parties and events.

Financial management is a support function for the rest of the business, so naturally it’s a bit different from what other Netox people do.” But it’s quite easy to promote professional interests, Miranda says.

“For instance, we’ve done a lot of things in terms of automation. We have automated financial management processes, and that work is still ongoing. However, we are only two finance professionals dealing with a multi-million turnover company, so the number of receipts and the amount of money moving back and forth is high. There’s plenty to automate.”

“Coming from the corporate world myself, there is a big difference with Netox. There’s not a sight of the rigidity of the biggest accounting companies operating in Finland. If you have an idea, you can walk straight to the CEO and ask what to do. The flexibility and freedom to do things your way is in a league of its own in Netox.”
